GeoTerraImage (Pty) Ltd (GTI) recognises the need to ensure the ongoing development of both internal and external candidates for long-term sustainability and growth of the local geospatial industry. Internally GTI actively encourages and supports this through ongoing development and training of staff using both formal and informal training. Externally GTI provides several gratis services to the wider geospatial community and educational establishments, including student mentorship roles (BSc and MSc levels), external examiner roles, and specifically in relation to the University of Fort Hare, training programmes and lectures, annual internships and student bursaries.
The University of Fort Hare relationship has been established and running for several years and has provided both financial and supervisory support to previously disadvantaged students who are now successfully employed, some of them at GTI. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the University of Fort Hare to ensure that this relationship continues to prosper, and includes, as from 2008, an annual internship at GTI.
GTI actively supports the local geo-spatial industry through its involvement with the Geo-Information Society of South Africa (GISSA). GTI has provided the chair for the Gauteng Branch of the GISSA since 2007 in the person of Stuart Martin. All GTI staff members are enrolled as GISSA members.
