GeoTerraImage has significant experience in land-cover and land-use mapping from satellite imagery and digital aerial imagery, and has completed numerous mapping projects at both national and local scale in both South Africa and Africa (i.e. Ghana, Tanzania, Madagascar, Nigeria, Mozambique, etc). Land-cover and land-use mapping is a core component of many other product offerings, and forms a key skills capacity within GTI.
GeoTerraImage also has extensive knowledge on the background theories to land-cover and land-use mapping and has developed several application orientated training courses around this. GTI staff have been extensively involved in both the South African National Land-Cover 1994 and 2000 mapping projects, as well as international initiatives such as FAO Africover and Global Land Cover 2000. Off-the-shelf data products for various localities in both South Africa and Africa are readily available. New datasets can be generated upon request from our extensive image libraries, or if required, from new image data acquisitions.
